Slowdown is a more acceptable description of what is happening right now. But this will be short-lived. We expect

He confronted the Roman Empire…. Because who might think that Jesus was a capitalist? No. Judas was the capitalist, for taking the coins! Christ was a revolutionary. He confronted the religious hierarchies. He confronted the economic power of the time. He preferred death in the defense of his humanistic ideals, who fostered change

The cold one war… Anheiser-Busch v. Modelo
It’s complicated: Anheiser-Busch (maker of watered-down urine colored beverages) is half-owner of Grupo Modelo, which brews Corona, Modelo, Pacifico and Victoria beers, among others. According to Modelo, a 1993 partnership agreement with Anheiser-Busch requires Modelo’s approval of any stock transfers. Anheiser-Busch has been negotiating a friendly takeover by the Anglo-Brazilian brewer InBev (Becks, Bass, Bohemia, Brahma… and on and on) for $52 million dollars. Even with the economic meltdow

Welcome to the Jungle
Well here I am! The sweltering, tropical, humid jungle capital of Pucallpa. I just moved here from the coastal town of Trujillo three days ago and I’ll be starting the second and final stint as a KF6 fellow for Manuela Ramos. A former Kiva fellow hooked me up with a family here in the heart of the Amazon and I’m staying with them for the next couple of days. The dad picked me up from the airport and ushered me (mercifully!) through the hoards of mototaxi drivers out to the main road wher

CSIS, Carnegie Endowment: Taiwan should offer itself on platter to China
It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."Wow. Taiwan hosted a forum on Ma's foreign policies to which it invited speakers who seem to be wildly Beijing-centric in their thinking. The redoubtable Jenny Hsu of the Taipei Times report
